Myles Turner 25 Points/6 Blocks Full Highlights (1/24/2021)

Myles Turner was averaging 4.1 blocks per game BEFORE this game where he got six of them. By following the unassailable precepts of mathematics, which are largely unknown to me, we can definitely state that Turner is now averaging MORE than 4.1 blocks per game this season. And that puts him in elite company. Especially if your definition of “elite company” includes such elite dudes as Tree Rollins, Mark Eaton, and Manute Bol.

The last player to average four blocks per game in a season was Hakeem Olajuwon in the 1992-1993 season. I don’t want to freak you out, but that was almost three decades ago. Most of the people watching this video weren’t alive for that occurrence, and if they were alive, they were probably pooping in diapers or developing fine motor skills via coloring books or simply eating the crayons that were supposed to be used with those coloring books. They certainly weren’t poring over stats in the newspaper or at the library or wherever you were supposed to go to look up stats before the internet existed.

I don’t really expect Turner to end the season averaging four or more blocks, but I hope it happens, just as a fun historical note. Any time your name can appear near the top of some “all-time” list, you gotta work hard to make sure it stays there. Not every player can be top twenty all-time in a stat. That is an opportunity that should be cherished. If Turner just blatantly chases blocks for the rest of the season while discarding proper defensive principles (coughcoughhassanwhitesidecoughgagchoke), I don’t even blame him.

Same with Bradley Beal shamelessly gunning for 35 PPG per game. I don’t blame him even one little bit.
