The Torrey Craig signing ended up not really working out for the Bucks. The most he scored for them was nine points. It’s all water under the bridge at this point, and I don’t want to get too hung up on bygones, but I just want to say, if Craig wanted to score more points, he should have tried making more shots. It really is that simple. And if Coach Bud wanted Craig to score more points, he should have played Craig 48 minutes per game so that Craig would have ample opportunity to make more shots. All parties share in the blame for this one, except for me, because it’s not my fault that I wasn’t able to make confidence-boosting highlight videos for Craig’s crummy performances.
Now Craig is in Phoenix and he has a bigger, more consistent role, and his minutes aren’t getting stolen by Thanasis Antetokounmpo (????). In his second game with the Suns, Craig scored ten points after not recording a double-digit scoring game for the Bucks. Then, in his third game, he repeated the feat, scoring ten more points and solidifying his role on the team to the detriment of…Dario Saric? Now Craig has broken the twenty-point threshold for the second time of his career.
I would say that Craig is on the upswing of his career, but we can’t forget that this dude is thirty years old. He’s already a veteran even if it’s only his fourth year in the league, and his trajectory won’t be going upward for too much longer. The good news is, his playstyle is well-suited for the upcoming decline in physical ability. Even old dudes can get rebounds if they just hustle hard enough, and Craig is the god of hustling. Old dudes can also shoot threes if nobody is making them run off screens, and Craig has improved his three-point shot to be quite fearsome from deep. Playing with Paul Millsap for three years gave him access to wisdom that the rest of us, sadly, don’t have access to.
I want some Paul Millsap wisdom, god damn it. Paul Millsap would be able to tell me why my knees hurt for no reason.
