The problem with the national TV commentators is that they don’t get hyped enough when roleplayers start going off. It took them until very late in the game to even acknowledge that Justise Winslow was doing anything out of the ordinary. And it was only one of the dudes who noticed. I don’t think Shaq was aware of anything that happened in the game except that his jersey got put in the rafters, so I can excuse him. Reggie Miller, he just sucks, so I’m used to it. But still.
Now that I think about it, they probably still hold the misguided notion that, since he was so hyped pre-draft, Winslow can score the ball decently well (he can’t, at least not usually), so they thought that what they were seeing was the norm for him. Does that explain the lack of reaction? Maybe a little bit.
If this vid was made using the Heat commentators, you can bet you’d be hearing them blowing frickin’ loads all over their frickin’ glasses over how good Winslow was scoring the ball. I know I was. Some of the floaters he hit aren’t really sustainable, but I totally lost it when he hit that last midrange jumper. Just totally lost it. First off, why would the Heat run a play designed to get that look, and second, Winslow absolutely canned the crap out of it, so who even cares?
If he can even do half of what he did in this game on a nightly basis, while keeping his defense the same, I might have to issue an official retraction regarding my previous negative opinions on him. That’s a big if though.
