Gerald Green has not successfully dunked the ball through the rim this year. Not even one time. No, not one. What happened to that dude who dunked it all the time with the Suns? The dude whose insane dunking prowess in the 2013-14 season was captured for all to see with the sickest dunkilation known to man (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ExXljP7SkbU). Yeah, that dude. What happened to him?
I don’t know. Nobody does. The Heat signed him thinking they were getting that same kind of player that he was in Phoenix, and he responded by sucking. Then the Celtics signed him, and I’m pretty sure they didn’t think they were getting anything good, and they were right: he has sucked bad so far this year. His shot selection has always been horrible; when his crap isn’t going down, there are almost no compelling reasons to give him minutes.
The one reason you could have for playing him is that he is capable of getting really hot and scoring a bunch of improbable buckets in a row. That, and he can theoretically jam the heck out of the ball. Theoretically. I’m still waiting for evidence from this season.
