This isn’t the prettiest highlight video ever, but if you’re going into a Julius Randle highlight video expecting aesthetic, ballet-like displays of basketball skill, you’re doing it wrong. What you should expect is a guy with a lumpy, froggish face bullying his way to the basket and just flinging the ball at the backboard every time he’s within three feet of the rim. If those were your expectations, those expectations would be met by this video. Met hard, thoroughly, and with extreme prejudice.
I’m looking at Randle’s shooting stats right now and I see that he’s only shooting 32% from the 3-to-10 foot range. That strikes me as extremely bad. You’re right there at the basket! I get that there’s defenders in the way, but he probably should rethink his shooting tendencies if he’s just going to waste possessions by throw up impossible bricks from outside the restricted area. Personally I would like to see those shots go to Brandon Ingram so he can throw up impossible bricks from the midrange area. The Lakers are simply doing a bad job of prioritizing who gets to brick shots.
