Kentavious Caldwell-Pope may have choked away his chance at a 40-burger by missing two free throws near the end of the game, but that doesn’t mean we can’t still be super impressed. I mean, we should be thinking about the 38 points he DID score rather than the two he didn’t. Unless you’re me, in which case you should be thinking of the time Trevor Ariza scored 40 and why not also Caldwell-Pope? Frickin’ choker.
It’s not enough that his team easily won the game because of his three-point heroics. I don’t care whether teams win or lose; I care that their role-players score notable amounts of points. 40 points is notable. 38 points is also semi-notable, but it’s missing that extra zazz that puts it over the top. Those two free throws would have provided that extra zazz.
Oh well. George Blaha saying stuff like “long gun and it goes” and “triple try” probably makes up for it. I love that dude’s commentary, and when he retires, I think I’m going to retire with him. The NBA just wouldn’t be the NBA without all those sweet Blaha-isms.
