Thought experiment: how many points would Matthew Dellavedova average in the NBL, Australia’s inferior but still somewhat competetive basketball league? I’ve never watched an NBL game, nor do I know what the “stars” of the league average, but I’m guessing there’s a lot more defense played there then in China, so I bet Delly wouldn’t average thirty like a lot of mediocre players do in China (Shavlik Randolph says hello).
I tried to look up Steve Blake’s stats for the Sydney Kings but they were going to make me pay money for access. What the hell? I’m not paying real-life money just to see the stats from some podunk backwater basketball league where the courts are sitting in the middle of the desert and the ball is made out of koala skin and they have to fight off angry aboriginals trying to injure spectators by swinging didgeridoos at their heads.
So, instead of getting extorted out of my hard-earned money, I went out and found some article that Steve Blake averaged six points per game off the bench in the NBL. Now, I know Blake sucks now, but that seems really low. His coach probably hated him. Either that or he hated his coach. Or both. Probably both.
I also thought about looking up to see whether Delly has previous stints in that league, but then I got lazy so I didn’t. Oops. So, given all the information I have at my disposal (which isn’t much), I bet Delly would average 23 points and eight assists per game in the NBL. That’s my official prediction. Now that I’ve given my official prediction, can one of my mates in Australia go to their local Oporto and mail me two orders of Bondi Bites please? I wanna try them so bad.
