Perhaps Germans are too busy being the saviors of Europe to spend time on such mundane hobbies as watching NBA highlight videos, but when I look at the attention that Nikola Jokic videos attract and I compare it to the attention that Dënniß ßchrööder videos attract, it makes me sad. Germany has a lot more people than Serbia, and they probably have a lot more computers too, but they simply fail to mobilize in support of their countryman in the same way that Serbs (and really, any Balkan nationality) do for theirs.
That’s okay. There’s still plenty of us stateside that are hyped for ßchrööder, his unstoppable drives to the basket, and his crafty midrange game. The support of the German people is welcome, but not crucial to ßchrööder’s success. And, you know, they’re too busy bailing out the rest of their continent with financial aid packages to pay attention to dumb things like sports (unless it’s that weird “futball” or whatever they call it). I totally get it. I also sometimes get distracted by financial issues – such as when my landlord pounds on my door and threatens to have me thrown out for not paying my rent.
