In terms of straight-up getting buckets, Enes Kanter is one of the very best in the league. The 9 people above him in buckets per minute are all considered elite offensive players, except for JaVale McGee and Josh Huestis (sample sizes FTW). Since you’re watching this video, you probably already know this, and you’re sitting there wondering why Kanter doesn’t get more attention for his incredible bucket-getting prowess.
That stretch of his career (basically all of it except this year kinda) where he didn’t play any defense really hurt his reputation. That’s why no one cares what he’s doing now. Guards can get away with being singularly offensive-minded, but bigmen are supposed to play defense. If they don’t, especially to the degree that Kanter wasn’t, it doesn’t matter what they do on offense.
This year, he’s not as horrible on that end, supposedly. Remember, I don’t care about defense, so I’m kinda iffy on the specifics. Anyway, I think his improvement in that area should put him in contention for the 6MOY award. Ersan Ilyasova was robbed of that award a couple years ago, and by extension the entire country of Turkey was robbed. Giving it to Kanter would right this wrong.
