Forget about Derrick Jones Jr. being just a dunker. That’s what he USED to be, before the amazing transformation that occurred at the 51 second mark of the second quarter in this game against the Atlanta Hawks. The transformation from purveyor of shmushage to accredited three-point marksman.
The shackles which once bound him to a spot right next to the rim, 10 feet off the ground, have been sawn away and replaced with an overriding sense of freedom. Jones can now do whatever he wants on the court, as long as that thing is shooting threes or throwing down whamjams. It really is a beautiful thing to see a young player grow up like this. I’m almost tearing up.
