Jarell Martin might be the player on the Grizzlies about whom people care the least. Actually, that’s probably not true now that I really take a look at their roster instead of just trying to recall their roster from memory, because they have some seriously marginal players on that team who people might not have even heard of. Kobi Simmons, Myke Henry, and Brice Johnson all received ten minutes in this game but no casual fan will even have a hope of identifying any of those guys. Martin at least has started some games this season. He’s low-profile, but the Grizzlies are stocked to the brim with players of an even lower profile.
I, for one, would be perfectly content to make Jarell Martin videos all day every day. He scores in many ways: three-pointers, midrange jumpers, hustle-type tip-ins, monster whamjams, and running layups. The only thing I haven’t seen him do is try to post up, even though he’s 6’10” and seems big enough to be able to physically overpower many of the wimpy power forwards in the nowadays NBA. With that kind of variety, do you even need any other players? DTB says no. Just Jarell Martin is enough.
