Every year I think to myself “This is the year the Spurs will finally stop being good. Their core is a year older and there’s no way they can keep it going.”, and every year I’m made to look like a fool. They were supposed to come back from choking away the championship looking like a broken, defeated team. Damn them. Why are they always so good? I’m green with envy. Not like celadon or forest green though. More like a kelly green.
Anyway, Ginobili himself was the main reason for the Spurs chokitude last year, with his horrible turnovers and general boneheadedness. There was even speculation that he might retire. Of course, he didn’t. Hardly anyone retires voluntarily while they’ve still got life in their legs. His alopecia may have progressed to dangerous levels, but he can still ball (that’s slang for “play basketball”).
He’s not putting up the counting stats like he used to, but he’s still a perfectly good 6th man who does the little things. And flops. Though I haven’t noticed as much of that this year. Maybe those fines are working?
