P.J. Tucker 17 Points Full Highlights (2/10/2015)

The NFL has something called the “Tuck Rule”. I don’t know what it is other than it was put in place to ensure that the Patriots remain a dynasty for the next hundred years.

Here is my proposal for a “Tucker Rule” for the NBA. It’s actually less of a “rule” and more of an “entire new way to score points”.

Basically, there would be two kinds of points: offensive points and defensive points. Offensive points would encompass all the points that are currently being scored in the NBA. Defensive points would be awarded for doing things on defense. Force your man into a bad shot? 5 DP. Alter a shot at the rim? 2 DP, but a block would be 3 DP, so try harder! Making a smart rotation is 1 DP, while intelligent help defense is 4 DP. Forcing turnovers is the crown jewel, 10 DP. At the end of the game, offensive points and defensive points would be totaled for each team to determine the winner.

There would also be a new box-score system which kept track of shots attempted against and shots made against, in addition to the stats outlined above.

With this system, we would see a much greater emphasis on defense, as a team composed entirely of smart defenders would easily outscore even a team of fifteen Kevin Durants. Somebody like P.J. Tucker would end up being an All-Star, which is why it’s called the “Tucker Rule”.

If the NBA wants to use this system, they’re going to have to pay at least 200 or 300 dollars. Genius on this scale does not come cheap.
