My music video for “Reppin’ the Hood feat. Rodney Hood” is coming along pretty well. Those bigtime label execs flew me and Rodney down to his hometown of Meridian, Mississippi so we could shoot the video. I actually brought my mom’s old camcorder and told the camera guy to use that so it would look really grainy and 90’s. I was influenced heavily by GTA San Andreas so I told the camera guy that so he could be in line with my vision.
The rap was flowing so well and we were all so blazed. I actually hotboxed for a bit for authenticity. Rodney was really into shooting the video; he was supposed to just hold the gun in front of the camera, but he actually shot a few windows out of some houses. Then we had to book it out of there because the pigs were onto us, so one of the bikini-clad women who was hanging out the window of the car sort of fell out. We also had to leave our camera guy behind and he got arrested.
So, we actually don’t have any of the tapes for the video, which sucks because we got like four hours of footage before we even started saying the rap. It would have been perfect for a making-of documentary. Anyway, me and Rodney are pretty much total G’s with each other so he’s down to give it another go. I warned him not to fire the gun this time, because I probably won’t be able to use the “I spent all the money you gave us for the video on primo weed and do-rags” story with the label again.
