I kept telling people all season that the Pelicans were an under-the-radar candidate for the Western Conference Finals. There was a small glimmer of hope that they would fulfill the prophecy I had assigned to them, but, sadly, it was not to be. So now I kind of look like an idiot just because I believed strongly in the ability of Anthony Davis to elevate his game on the world’s biggest stage. Which he did. But nobody else on his team did.
Eric Gordon looked like Clippers-era Gordon in this game, but that’s following up a game where he looked more like Cavs-era Luke Walton. But, really, what can you expect from a player who who had never been to the playoffs before? Just forget that Anthony Davis was also a playoff virgin and still managed to look like a beast in every single game.
I have a bold prediction for next year. Can you guess what it is?
That’s right. Pelicans to the WCF on the backs of Anthony Davis and Wes Matthews.
