T.J. McConnell is getting too close to basketball immortality.
In only about 20 more minutes of game-time, if he manages to keep up his pace, he will challenge Luke Walton’s single season record of 364 minutes played without a single free-throw attempt.
It’s taken some serious dedication on the part of McConnell, as he duteously avoids any and all contact, only takes the easiest layups, and generally plays the least physical game of all time. Luke Walton has stood unchallenged as a bastion of tissue-soft basketball playing, and now, only a few years after he set his seemingly unbreakable record, a new crown-seeker comes along, undrafted out of Arizona.
I have to assume that the 76ers will bench McConnell as soon as he eclipses the 364-minute mark on the season, so as not to needlessly risk the record. The only question is, do opposing teams intentionally foul him, to avoid their names being recorded in history as the ones to allow this record?
