Allen “Crabbey Patty” Crabbe is quietly shooting 44% from the threezone this year on significant volume, unlike somebody like Lance Thomas who shoots 45% because he only takes the openest open corner threes. Crabbe does a lot of catch and shoot off of curls like Kyle Korver does (the one guy who all catch and shoot players must be compared to under penalty of death), so the fact that his percentage from deep is so high is quite impressive.
One could even go so far as to say that paying him 19 million buckeroos per year is not the most egregious overpay on the Blazers. Actually, that’s quite easy to say, given the existences of Evan Turner (17 million buckeroos per year to make funny instagram posts) and Festus Ezeli (7 million buckeroos just so he can dig up corpses to use for their body parts). Despite being overpaid, however, Crabbey Patty is the kind of player that any team would want, provided that he wouldn’t get crushed under the weight of a larger role or the weight of not having the Lillard/McCollum combo drawing the attention of the defense at all times.
Why am I so obsessed with players being overpaid all of a sudden? Is it because of my uncontrolled jealousy and envy? Probably.
