The end of the regular season is approaching fast. Don’t worry Laker fans, your torment is almost over, your tormenter soon banished to the wailing winds of time. That means we only have a little bit of time left to finagle a 30-point game for Zubac. That 25-point game he had makes me believe he can do it, and the demotion of Timofey Mozgov has opened the window of opportunity.
Here’s what needs to happen: he needs to start aggressively shooting midrange jumpers. He can make them, no reason not to shoot them every other possession. How long does it take to add a three-ball? If he can scrunch that process into about a week it’s not too late for him to begin draining threes. That might be asking a little much, though. To compensate, he needs to demand the ball in the post like Dwight Howard used to. Demand the ball and then shoot a hook shot. It didn’t really work for Howard, but it will work for Zubac, because Zubac is good and Howard sucked.
Also, he needs to stop trying on defense in order to concentrate on scoring points. If the other team is laying it up easily every possession, that’s simply more possessions for Zubac to score 30 with. More possessions where he has tons of energy to put the ball in the hole because of how much he conserved on the other end. It’s called the “Harden Effect” and it worked so well for Harden that he’s gonna win MVP.
