Donovan Mitchell sure has a lot of confidence. Most rookies outside the top five don’t come in and immediately start chucking the basketball at the rim with no remorse. They feel things out for a bit first. Learn the pecking order and their place in it, and as they get better and more confident, add to their shot totals. Mitchell just says “screw that”, designates himself the first banana, and plays like it.
A few of his games have been pretty rough shooting-wise, but he’s made up for it with a couple games where he had more points than shots taken. That’s the hallmark of a not-awful scorer right there. And that’s what Donovan is. A scorer, and not awful at it.
Sometimes I wonder what it’s like to be a fan of a team who can take middling picks and make them good. Don’t bring up Giannis. He doesn’t count.
