Pat Connaughton got a lot of people excited (it can’t be just me) when he scored 24 points in the Blazers’ season-opening massacre of the Suns. He’d been waiting in reserve for two whole years, and now it was finally time for him to craft some artificial wings made out of wax and fly towards the sun! Well, we know how the story goes: he flew too close to the sun, the wings melted, and he hurtled back to Earth, scoring in single digits in all but three of the next twenty games. Tonight included.
He did score 12 in the game before this, but I would be hesitant to call what he’s doing now a “trend”. Things in his favor: he’s starting, so he’s got a smidgen more confidence. Things not in his favor: he’s Pat Connaughton, who has never before put together a legit streak of NBA basketball. Blazers fans are allowed to be optimistic, but me, I’m going to sit here and sulk until he scores 20 multiple times and becomes the Luke Babbitt I always thought he could be.
