Everyone was getting all hyped up over the upcoming matchup between Lauri Markkanen and Kristaps Porzingis, and they’re even more hyped up now that it’s over, and I just don’t get why. I think their problem is twofold.
Problem 1: People like to compare Markkanen to Porzingis because of… reasons? I don’t know, but it’s stupid, because Markkanen isn’t the next Porzingis. He can’t be, because we’ve already determined that he’s the white Kevin Durant. I’ll reserve my hype for when those two match up in the Finals this year.
Problem 2: Markkanen had 33 points, which is a career-high, so that sounds good on the surface, but dig a little deeper and you will find that he had two whole overtime periods with which to acquire more points. Am I supposed to be impressed by performances made with extra time? Because I’m not. Did Kobe need overtimes to score 81? So why should Markkanen need them to get a measly 33? I’m tired of this society, this new “modern” society where we exult mediocrity and make kings of paupers. I’m just sick of it.
