This is how Vince Carter is going to stick in the league for a few more years. That 24-point performance he had a month ago was an aberration; he was driving to the rim like his knees had a whole decade of toil removed from them. It’s telling that he didn’t even play the game after that, almost certainly because his knees had swollen to the size of grapefruits after the abuse they took.
But three-pointers, yeah, that’s something he can do forever. He sort-of had Curry-range before it was fashionable, and now it’s paying dividends. He can go out there, stand behind the arc, and wait for someone to give him the ball so he can shoot. He doesn’t even have to move if he doesn’t want to. He made some ill-advised forays into the two-point zone tonight, but all of his points came on the long ball. Let that be a lesson to him: unless you’re playing the Cavs who can’t defend Yi Jianlian’s chair, stick to three-ball.
Unless you think you can dunk it. We need you to dunk it a couple dozen more times before your career is over.
