I just want to shout out the Wizards commentator (I forget his name) who managed to acknowledge Jerami Grant’s career-high (he didn’t mention that part) 22 points while being overcome with smothering melancholy. That takes inner power. Normally he just sits in silence when things are going really wrong, as they have been for the Wizards this season. Stay strong, bro. Things will get better eventually, there’s no way your team goes 1-81.
The Thunder have been having their own problems to start the year, but a first half like the one they just had goes a long way towards healing the pain. As does hearing the home crowd booing vigorously after giving up yet another bucket to Grant, who really isn’t that good on offense. I still don’t know why they traded Ilyasova for him a couple years ago, because his theoretical three-point shooting still hasn’t materialzed, but now I guess it’s a mystery that will never be answered.
Grant hit a few deep ones tonight, along with his usual dunks. The best part, though, is his pair of funky moves for his last two buckets. The first one, I along with the commentator don’t even know what that was, and the second one was a travel that the refs were too lazy to call. Can’t blame them, who wants to prolong the game while at the same time taking away a made bucket?
