We are a full half of a quarter of the way through the 2018-19 season (the greatest NBA season ever by my reckoning), and Caris LeVert is averaging over 20 points per game. I’ve looked everywhere, on the Nets roster, under my desk, inside of his psyche, down the road, up the hill, in the Nets arena, amongst the catacombs of Nephren-Ka, and I can’t find any reason, ANYWHERE, for why he won’t keep up his scoring for the whole rest of the season. I suspect that there isn’t one.
Unlike other unexpected 20 ppg scorers, he’s not in any danger of being removed from my channel. I like him too much. Truthfully, I’m getting a little tired of him, but that’s only due to overexposure. Once I fully recalibrate my expectations and accept that this is his new reality, I’ll be fine. As long as he doesn’t start racking up too many assists. Then I’ll be annoyed for real.
The only question that remains is if this 20 ppg year will have people looking back on it like “who the frick was Caris LeVert” or like “that was the first really good year in what would end up being a Hall-Of-Fame career”. Those are the only two options. There is no middle ground.
