Man, that Summer League game where Jaren Jackson hit nothing but a ton of threes is looking like the world’s biggest statistical aberration right now. He was 8 of 13 (thirteen threes holy balls) from deep that game. After tonight’s game, he’s 5 of 24 in the regular season over 10 games. It felt unsustainable when it happened, but it also felt REAL. Like there was some sort of magic that would just let him keep hitting threes even though his form is wonked out to heck and back. There wasn’t.
At least, not yet! The Grizzlies aren’t looking nearly as tanky as last year, so it’s going to be a while before we get to see him get full reign over the offense. It might take a Marc Gasol injury or three. Maybe Mike Conley has to retire from the NBA to follow in his dad’s long-jump footsteps. But when the day comes, we’re going to see some real stuff. There’s going to be threes. There’s going to be Giannis-like half-travel megastrides into the paint. There’s going to be dunks. Point Jaren? In the future, anything is possible.
P.S. Stop telling me to make Jokic “1 FG Attempted” highlights. It won’t happen, bug DawkIns about it he roasts anybody when he gets the chance.
