If the season ended right at this very moment, Malcolm Brogdon AKA Brogdog AKA The Junkyard Brog AKA The Cybrog AKA The President would be an inductee into the famed 50/40/90 club. At the time of this writing, he is shooting 50.5% from the floor, 43.2% from behind the long line, and a blistering 100.0% from the welfare stripe.
Do I actually think that Brogdon will finish the season with all three of those percentages above the qualifying line? Not really. But it could happen. Brogdon is usually the fourth option on offense whenever he’s on the court (unless he’s leading the scrub lineup), so there’s no reason for him to try do too much or take bad shots.
Now I’m thinking, if you put me on a team with all middle schoolers, and we played against another team that only had middle schoolers, and we played 82 games, would I enter the middle school equivalent of the 50/40/90 club? I think I could shoot 50% from the field, and I’m pretty good at three-pointers too (50% in an open gym with somebody passing me the ball, and it’s not like middle schoolers are challenging my shot unless they already hit their growth spurt or are using steroids), but the 90% free throws would probably kill me. Unless they use a smaller ball in middle school. Then it would be EZ PZ.
