I don’t even remember what Willie Cauley-Stein looks like as normal human being anymore. I try to think back to when he was a rookie, but all my mind can recall is his moldy-Cheeto hair, grill, and sub-ocular tattoos that look like bruises. He’s got a look, I’ll give him that. He walks onto the court, and you know it’s WCS. It can’t be anyone else besides maybe D.J. Wilson.
It’s gone unnoticed, but despite his off-kilter appearance he’s averaging a career-high by far in points this year. Unlike previous years, his contributions to the Kings aren’t being hidden by their all-encompassing badness. Sacramento is good (-ish) this year, he’s helping his team win games, so where’s the hype?
I ask this all the time about all the players you can think of, and I never get a good answer. People just don’t care about some players, and there’s nothing anyone can do to change that. An executive order from George Washington from beyond the grave can’t make people give a hoot about the WCS’s and W-Marv’s of the world.
