So this is the famed Harry Giles. The third in the renowned Harry Giles line. Apparently this guy was a highly ranked prospect at one point? I’m looking at the high-school rankings for his final year and, yep, there he is right at number one. Trailing right behind is Josh Jackson (btw I really regret not making highlights of that dude scoring 18 because he sucks so bad now oh my god). So, yeah, there’s obviously a ton of talent there. Not just potential talent. Actual shown talent. They don’t rank guys at #1 for potential, right?
Injuries suck. We all know this, it’s not fair, but Giles has been cursed with them. He slipped all the way to 20 in the draft, and the Kings smartly picked him up. When you’re horrible like they are, you’ve got to find talent any way you can. If that means picking a guy who might never be even close to a good player because of his injury situation, but has super high upside, you do it.
Giles hasn’t been very good, either in exhibition games or to start the season. But that’s okay. Kings fans were probably hoping for more, but they’ve got to be patient. Easy for me to say, I know. But hey! These 12 points could be a turning point for him. Or, it could be the only semi-acceptable scoring performance in a short career filled with what-ifs.
