I’m of the opinion that a first-overall rookie averaging a double-double with efficient shooting should be getting a lot of hype, no matter how bad his team is doing. I know you can’t make people care about players they don’t care about, but WHY don’t they care about Deandre Ayton? I know it’s not because he doesn’t play defense.
Is it because everyone knew he was going to be good so when he is good it isn’t a surprise? That could be part of it. The underdogs of the draft are always more fun to root for then the guy who’s been pegged as the top pick in his class for a decade.
Well, I’m surprised at how good he is. That’s because I don’t spoiler anything by watching college games. Every rookie is a totally new experience for me unless I happened to watch one of their HoopMixTapes accidentally. With those, normally I try to watch only the players who I think will suck. Diamond Stone, you looked so sweet in those vids but I knew it wasn’t going to work out.
