The idea has jokingly been suggested to create a Serbian Superteam in Sacramento (SSS) by somehow adding additional Serbs to the existing Serb core that is already on the Kings (Bogdan Bogdanovic and Nemanja Bjelica). But with the Kings hosting the Clippers last night, a team who has two of their own Serbs on the roster (Boban Marjanovic and Milos Teodosic), do you really not think that they met up with Vlade Divac to discuss this possibility? The timing of it all was just too perfect.
Picture this: five Serbian dudes hanging out in the back room of some rundown Sacramento nightclub, chain-smoking cigarettes and pounding down Serbian beers than Vlade had specially imported from the homeland. Crude jokes are told in Serbian and nobody has to worry about translating them for the dumb Americans. Maybe a spontaneous game of cards breaks out when Milos brings out his ratty deck of cards. And, in that smoky, dimly lit room, Vlade tells them that he could pry Teodosic and Marjanovic away from the Clippers with just a package of a first-round pick plus Harry Giles. There is laughter, because the idea of four Serbs on the same team is outlandish anywhere but Serbia; however, there is a feeling of seriousness underneath it all.
Bogdanovic then says jokingly that they could trade Bagley, Hield, Fox, and three more draft picks for Nikola Jokic. This time, nobody laughs. There is only nodding. Vlade rests his chin on his fingertips, a half-smoked cigar hanging from his grip as he stares into the void, contemplating the scenario. Nikola Jokic on the Kings. A true Serbian Superteam in Sacramento, guaranteed to make the playoffs.
