I’ve been hating on Paul Millsap for what might seem to be, to the outside observer, spurious or trivial reasons. Mostly it’s a reaction to him being grossly overpaid (thirty million dollars!) for his level of production. It also seems like the Nuggets play well whether or not he’s actually suiting up for games, and I prefer it when he’s not because that means Nikola Jokic gets more touches. Overall, I would be a happier person if Millsap was somewhere other than Dever.
But the fact of the matter is, Millsap is playing well this season. His play is reminiscent of his Utah days when he hadn’t gotten into the “I want to be an All-Star so I’m going to try to score more often” mindset; he’s lower-scoring, but more efficient, and is more of a super-duper role-player than an actual star. And you can’t argue the fact that his on-off numbers are nice. You also can’t argue the fact that the Nuggets are winning a lot of games this year. All of these facts combined seem to portray me as an illogical hater.
Maybe I should just delete this description and start over with something that doesn’t make me look like an idiot. Nah, I’ve come too far on this one. We’re leaving it.
