In case you didn’t realize, D.J. Augustin of the Orlando Magic just set an NBA PLAYOFF RECORD (three-point era only) for MOST POINTS SCORED WITHOUT MAKING A FIELD GOAL. He dropped ten points solely on free throws while missing all five of his field goal attempts. The previous record was nine points, set separately by Jason Collins in 2003 and Doc Rivers in 1993.
(In case you’re wondering, Darrick Martin of the 96-97 Clippers holds the regular-season record with 15 points. And in case you’re wondering again, I’m not including seasons prior to the three-point line because the sport they were playing could only loosely be considered “basketball”. Third “in case you’re wondering”: Darrick Martin was like the Isaiah Canaan of the 90’s, except shorter. One final “in case you’re wondering”: yes, I am paying for Stathead, and yes, I am a better human being than you)
So D.J. Augustin deserves a lot of props for his gutsy performance wherein he scored in double-digits without actually having the benefit of making field goals.
