It has recently come to my attention that Jimmy Butler is an absolutely horrendous jump-shooter this year. Like, one of the very worst, probably THE worst when you’re talking about players who are actually considered “good”. I mean, just by watching Heat games you kind of get the sense that he’s not great at jumpers, and that he actively avoids taking them at times, but him being the worst at them? Wild.
For the purposes of this discussion, free throws do not count as jumpers, because he doesn’t jump while shooting them. Otherwise, he would be a lot more efficient in this particular category of scoring.
Luckily for Miami, they somehow dug through their gigantic draft board and managed to snatch a sweet-shooting rookie who can come in and shore up any jumper-related deficiencies that may exist on the roster. They also lucked into having a random rookie end-of-bench scrub turn into the league’s best three-point bomber in his second year, but this is not a Duncan Robinson vid. This is a Tyler Herro vid, and the description is here only to pump up his efforts both in this game and over this whole season.
Herro is the reason why that, if I’m the Heat, and things maybe don’t go quite as well as hoped this season, I don’t feel so bad about getting some sort of sweet haul for Butler. Yeah, we’re going there. I want a lineup of Dragic/Herro/Robinson/Olynyk/Leonard and I don’t want some non-jumpshooting scrub clogging things up with his “heart” and “desire to win”.
