Marquese Chriss may not be a true candidate for the ROY award, but he IS a true candidate for the RWTDTMFHSJOTY award. In case you’re dumb, that acronym stands for “rookie who throws down the most frickin’ hard slam jams of the year”. Derrick Jones is also a contender for that award, but he hasn’t been in the league long enough to win it. Amount of slamjams thrown down counts just as much as the hardness of the slamjams.
It’s not as prestigious of an award as the main ROY one, but it’s still pretty good. Dunking is an integral part of the NBA, putting butts in seats with aerial acrobatics. It only makes sense to reward the people who perform this feat with the most proficiency and regularity. Chriss has had his share of big-time whammos, though I feel like he’s been dropping off in that area a little bit as the season winds down. I mean, I look at every single dunk for those monthly dunkilations. I know who dunks hard and who doesn’t dunk hard. Chriss still dunks hard as heck, but not as devastatingly hard as when the season began.
Hmm. Maybe Derrick Jones should get the award anyway. Did you see his recent dunks? Holy moly. Gerald Green has been reincarnated except the original Gerald Green is still in the NBA.
