The Pistons are kinda sorta imploding right now. They’re 8 and 19 since December, and while this isn’t a full-scale Cavs-esque locker-room brawl kind of implosion, you can tell that not all is as it should be. So what’s the deal?
You thought you knew what I was going to propose as a solution, and you’re wrong! Ha! Now would normally be the time where I say that the Pistons could get back to their winning ways simply by playing Boban “Marj of the Toy Soldiers” Marjanovic more minutes and giving him more touches.
But after thinking about it, maybe the Pistons don’t need a high-scoring but high-usage/turnover-prone/barely-mobile bigman taking minutes away from Andre Drummond, who is looking better than ever even during these losses. Even if that bigman is one of the most fun players in the league. I wouldn’t say no to it, obviously, but the center position is not the big problem for the Pistons right now.
Not like I know what their actual problem is. I like all of their players in a vacuum, so maybe it’s the coach or the scheme or simply the fact that their new arena is half-empty every game.
