Deandre Ayton has been as advertised. He’s a walking, talking double-double. 8 double-doubles out of 12 games. Double-doubles are pretty much ignored in the NBA nowadays (I think I’ve typed the words “double-double” more often in this paragraph than my last 1000 paragraphs combined), but they’re still cool. 10 rebounds isn’t really that hard to get, especially if you’re 7’1″ and not Brook Lopez, and neither is 10 points, those are both numbers that a pretty good center should get every game, but this guy is a rookie. Rookies always suck at things they’re supposed to be good at.
It’s too bad that I can’t really bear to watch the Suns right now, so I don’t have a good idea of how the non-highlight parts of his game are. But do those parts even matter? The reason it’s called basketball is because there’s a basket and a ball and you’re supposed to make one go through the other, and Ayton is really skilled at that. Then again, so was (De)Andrea Bargnani.
Yeah, I just dissed Ayton right there. I don’t even know why. Just felt like it, I guess.
