Austin Rivers 12 Points Full Highlights (11/4/2014)

Austin Rivers is probably the best current NBA player named after a fluvial landform. DownToBuck looks back on some of the other greats who shared this characteristic:

Larry Lagoon: Playing for the Rochester Royals in the mid-50’s, Lagoon was known as a flashy dribbler, developing a type of proto-crossover known as the “Very Larry” which confounded defenders for years until it was outlawed at the beginning of the 1958-1959 season.

Erich Estuary: Older fans might remember this little-known player who lasted just one season, donning the Sonic green and gold for their 1988 campaign. Never very good at anything, he failed to live up to the premature nickname that Seattle fans had given him: “Bestuary”.

Dan “The Triangulator” Delta: A career journeyman, Delta, for some reason, always did really well on teams that were running some version of the Triangle offense. His time in the league came to an abrupt end when he kayaked off the edge of a waterfall, leaving him with a limited range of knee movement that prevented him from running.

Alastor “Al” Alluvial: Much like the sediment after which he was named, Alluvial was a dirty and gritty player for the famous Bad Boy Pistons. He famously elbowed his own teammates on purpose during scrimmages, yet managed to end his six-year career without ever earning a technical foul.
