This is only the second time in the last five years that a player has made at least twelve shots without missing one. Serge Ibaka did it in 2014, but it’s easy for Ibaka to do since he’s so big that he can just reach over everybody and plop the ball right in the hoop. Not so for Tony Allen. Tony had to work HARD for his shots and it’s amazing that they all went in. I have a feeling you could put him an an empty gym with a chair for a defender and he would only make seven or eight of these shots.
You can go back another five years and add two more names to the twelve-of-twelve list, Yao Ming and Nene: both guys who had high FG% throughout their careers. The list of players who had perfect games is in general dominated by big men. It is decidedly not dominated by players who can’t shoot and are shooting-guard-sized. That fact puts this performance in the top five insane performances of the season. Right in between Babbitt scoring 23 and Andrea Bargnani getting waived despite being a first overall pick who once averaged 20 PPG.
