What’s the point of even having J.J. Barea on the Mavericks if the rest of the role-players from that chamionship team aren’t even there? They brought him back for nostalgia reasons but Dirk is the only guy left from that team so the nostalgia doesn’t even work. I look at him and I feel no nostalgia whatsoever. You could ask Mavs fans and they would feel the same way. No nostalgia.
It’s not too late to recreate lost magic, though. Jason Terry is still definitely in the league. So is Shawn Marion. Actually, Marion retired. But you could unretire him with promises of a return to the good old days when the Mavs were beating LeBron in the finals. You could also probably call up Brian Cardinal and offer him a contract. I’m guessing he’s so pasty by this point that he’s turned into a pile of literal paste, but he wouldn’t need to actually play. It’s not like he actually played when the Mavs won their ring. Steve Novak? He’s still alive as far as I know. DeShawn Stevenson is probably still playing defense somewhere. Why not in Dallas? You could cut Parsons to free up a roster spot. Parsons wasn’t on the championship team so he is useless, no, worse than useless in this scenario.
The best part of this plan is that Jason Kidd could go back to being a player and then he wouldn’t have to coach the Bucks anymore.
