Full disclosure: up until this evening, I thought Caris LeVert’s first name was “Chris”. Easy mistake to make if you’re a dumbass like me. I’d never actually heard the Nets commentators say his first name; it was always just “LeVert”. And somehow my brain changed the “a” to an “h” every time I saw his name in a boxscore/roster.
I’m sure the legions of LeVert fans out there will be outraged that I am so ignorant about this dude. And they’re right to be; I pretty much have no insight on him at all. The fact that he’s supposed to be athletic is the one thing I know. The Nets commentators kept saying stuff about his “long strides”, so now that’s two things.
Indeed, his moves to the rim this game were Giannis-esque in terms of ground covered without dribbling. I’ve always worried that the league is going to crack down on the “gather step” that allows these sorts of moves. Now that a greenhorn like LeVert is doing it as well, the NBA probably won’t stand for it much longer.
