I kept doing double-takes while assembling this video. First, because my eyes kept telling me I was looking at prime Allen Iverson wearing a Knicks jersey, and second, because once I finally internalized that I was watching Trey Burke, I couldn’t believe that he kept scoring the rock and getting assists. For real though, this is his best scoring/passing performance since that game in his rookie year where he got 24 and 15. I made highlights of that one if you want to see it, no Rickroll this time, I frickin’ promise: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9okzl88U22s
Let’s do a quick rundown on Burke’s career that led us to this point:
-Gets drafted 9th overall, and after missing his first few games, proves to be a competent starting PG (see: that 24/15 game), with shooting numbers that reflected his rookie-PG-ness.
-In his second year his scoring stays the same. Problem is, his passing got worse, a theme that would continue for the rest of his career.
-The Jazz start to lose patience with him, preferring to start Raul Neto and Shelvin Mack. His numbers dip lower and lower.
-He gets traded to the Wizards for a 2nd round pick (LOL [lots of laughs]).
-The Wizards have John Wall so they have no use for him, and he slowly falls entirely out of the rotation before scoring 27 in the final game of the season.
-He dominates the D-League for a bit.
-Dominates so hard that the Knicks call him up, he has now outlasted his buddy Jared Sullinger in the NBA.
-Takes the backup PG spot from Frank Ntilikina after being pretty good in limited minutes.
-Drops frickin’ 18 and 11 when I thought he was out of the league for good.
