Even after Trey Lyles’ recent mini-slump, I’d like to register my support for him to win the Sixth Man of the Year award. I do this even though there’s probably a bunch of better candidates, and you know what, I’m fine with those other dudes winning. As long as it’s not Jamal Crawford. If that skinny dude who has low-key not been good for a few years now wins again I’m officially abandoning the NBA and starting an NHL highlights channel. You know how sweet it would be to only have to do “Russkie Russianov 1 Goal Full Highlights”? I could make 50 videos a day. And yes, that’s a threat. Crawford winning 6MOY = DownToWild.
Lyles broke out of that mini-slump tonight, which does his case some good. If he can keep up these 20-point games, he can be the first player who isn’t a midget chucker to win the award for quite some time. It’s not like I hate midget chuckers all that much, just sort of. It’s that they’ve been monopolizing this award forever. Would people like it if every ROY was a post-up bigman regardless of who was actually the best rookie?
