Now seems like a good time to remind people that Isaiah Canaan was 15th in total made three-pointers in the 2015-16 season. He would’ve been higher, but he sat out the last few as the 76ers were in the deepest throes of tanking. To reiterate: Canaan, who is just a guy, was one of the most prolific three-bombers in a whole NBA season. After that triumph, he basically almost disappeared. A disappointing stint in Chicago was followed by a 4-minute return to Houston.
Then he came to the Suns, and things were looking pretty okay until he injured himself out of the season. Crap! Just when his career was getting back on track. The Suns didn’t have to keep him around after that, but they did, presumably because their PG situation is all sorts of ass. The fact that he’s the starter illustrates that fact. The 76ers won 10 games with him starting many and playing in almost all of them. Not saying he’s not a winning player, but there certainly isn’t much hard evidence that he is.
This was an impressive performance for him. Not just threes, he was doing some fancy stuff out there. That big Eurostep against Valanciunas, a quick stop to send Lowry out of the picture for a midrange pop, a tough layup with Ibaka prowling, he was making the whole Raptors team look like fools. The Suns lost, as was expected, but we are the winners for getting to see The Canaanball in action once again.
