The term has been used in the past I’m pretty sure, but I’m not aware of any current NBA duo (or WWE tag-team… team) using the nickname “The Ivory Towers”. So I’m just going to go ahead and give the devastating combo of Doug McDermott and Domantas Sabonis that collective moniker. It’s perfect, because they both are tall (the “Tower” part) and white (the “Ivory” part).
The Ivory Towers are basically leading the Pacers to wins singlehandedly at this point. Sabonis has been good for the entire season, and is now unlocking previously unknown passing ability, while McDermott has been bad for the entire season, and is now unlocking the ability to be not bad (by demanding that his teammates actually pass him the ball). Who needs Victor Oladipo? Probably the Pacers, but for now they’re making due.
The best part about this new nickname is if McDermott regresses back into the low-volume low-impact player he was before, you can swap T.J. Leaf in there for him and it still makes sense. Or Bojan Bogdanovic in a pinch if it turns out that Leaf still sucks. Which he still does. Damn, that guy really did fool me with that 17-point game in his second ever appearance. Just like McDermott fooled me with his stellar college career.
