After the release of the smash hit “Jeff Green Rap” in June, DownToBuck had been riding high. Cocaine, prostitutes, cars with fancy wheels, he had it all and more. The dope flow of such passages as: Drafted fifth overall seven years ago / He should be in his prime, you know / If your eyes wander in the locker room / Eric Reid would say, “You’re gay, kaboom!”, DownToBuck captured the minds of the urban youth who had always been his main supporters.
Then, in just minutes, it all came crashing down.
His hottest new rap single, “Bitches Love Draymond Green”, touted pre-release as “rap of the year” by promoters, failed to make any impact in the scene, and sold a mere zero copies on iTunes. After two weeks of minimal sales improvement, DownToBuck’s label terminated his contract, and the drug-fueled life of luxury no longer could be sustained.
Back on the streets where it all started, DownToBuck wanders without purpose, looking to pick up the pieces of his shattered rap career. Panhandling on the streets of Wisconsin (no longer known as “Wiscompton” to him) just to score a gram here or an ounce there, he looks back and weeps at the departure of his fleeting, yet high-flying, success.
