The obvious question that I have about Rodney Hood is, did he actually grow up in the hood? I exerted my google-fu to its maximum limits and found out a few things:
Hood is from Meridian, Mississippi. Prior to my looking it up, all I know about Meridian was that it was an okay-sized city near Alabama. I have operated my entire life under the assumption that all cities in Mississippi are poor, and Meridian was included in that assumption. It turns out that I was right. According to Wikipedia, Meridian is not an affluent place, with over a quarter of the population beneath the poverty line.
But not all poverty-stricken places are “the hood”. In order to get a clearer picture, I used Google Street View to scope out the area. Some of the neighborhoods definitely look skeezy AF. Others look okay. Yet others actually don’t have any houses along the streets, just empty lots ala Detroit, which is always a bad sign. So, it is more likely than not that Rodney Hood did indeed grow up in the hood.
That’s enough thinking for me today. Where did I put those hot pockets again? Mooooooom!
