Scott Skiles hates rookies. This is a known fact. He had certified beast Tobias Harris as a rookie on the Bucks, and he didn’t play him at all. There are other instances of Skiles’ rookie-despising tendencies, but I’m too lazy/mad about Tobes to look them up. You’ll have to trust me on this one.
So if you were wondering why Mario Hezonja isn’t getting any minutes, that’s why. Actually, it’s more of a combination of that and that the Magic have aspirations of a playoff spot, aspirations that mean that developmental time on the court for a raw rookie is severely limited. Aaron Gordon is another victim of this win-now attitude. Here’s a little hint for the Orlando FO: even if you make the playoffs, you’re not going anywhere. It wouldn’t hurt to develop your young talent at the expense of a few wins.
