Let’s just forget about the “point guard” designation for D’Angelo Russell. When analyzing his stats with that preconceived notion, it is inevitable that you will end up disappointed. “Wow, this dude has a horrible assist-to-turnover ratio for a point!”
However, if you think about him as just a “combo guard”, then all of a sudden his stats seem to get a lot better. “Wow, this guy can really pass for someone who thinks of themselves more of a scorer!”
If changing his position a little bit means you have to start him at SG with Marcelo Huertas starting at PG, that’s fine. Actually, that would be more than fine. I would be totally down with that plan. Then add Kelly at SF, Randle at PF, and Sacre at C. Damn. That’s a killer lineup for what the Lakers are trying to accomplish this year.
