Did anyone let the Wizards commentators know that Kelly Oubre’s half-court buzzer beater at the end of the third quarter didn’t count? Probably not. They sounded so happy, like it was the first good thing to happen to their team all season (it pretty much was), why would you ruin that happiness with facts? That would be mean.
Oubre would’ve had 22 if he hadn’t purposefully delayed letting that shot go until the buzzer sounded. Not much in the grand scheme of things, but 22 points definitely sounds way better than 19.
The Wizards are in a weird place right now, with the same team from last year minus Marcin Gortat and his illegal screens performing at a very low level. I can’t immediately think of an implosion like this in recent times, though I’m sure there have been a few. Every single thing about the organization is negative, no wins, no young talent, no chemistry, no competent vets, Dwight Howard, and that’s just the players. Not even going to go into the basketball operations side of things.
This is where I’d offer to trade them Thon Maker, but I’m not sure I even want anyone on their team, even in exchange for crappy Thon (who has been slightly less crappy this year, admittedly). I guess I’d take Bradley Beal, yeah, he’s pretty good. And I’ll always have a soft spot in my heart for Jason Smith.
