One of the great things about being an American is that you are granted certain rights, guaranteed by a little piece of paper, maybe you’ve heard of it, it’s called the Constitution. Sorry Euros, enjoy getting arrested for sending a vaguely racist tweet while I exercise my freedom by buying assault rifles and burning bibles.
Which is why I’m so peeved that Jahlil Okafor is catching flak for punching a dude in the face after they both had too much to drink. This is America! Punching dudes is one of the rights outlined in the great document. It doesn’t explicitly say that, sure, but that doesn’t mean that the Founding Fathers didn’t imply it. I’d consider punching and other forms of bodily harm to be a form of constitutionally-protected speech, and I know of lots of lawyers who agree with me.
Don’t you feel stupid now. Criticizing poor Jahlil for merely exercising his rights as an American citizen.
